weekly critique # 6

This is an extremely striking photo for several different reasons. To start off, the colors in this photo are beautiful. The gold, blue, brown and yellow shades compliment eachother perfectly creating a very magical image. Also the golden tones of the rocks bring out the peachy-golden shades among the blue clouds. The peachy-golden clouds meet the deep blue ocean at the horizon line which makes for a very defined line and balance… Continue

Independent Project

I know this is a little late, but it relates to the actual final project much more.

Originally, I had planned to do what was going to be titled "The Pajama Series: A Drowsy Reflection on Shanghai" and it would be a compare/contrast piece on the many dichotomies in Shanghai, especially in relation to the differences between local Shanghainese life and expatriate life. I was going to have only one model, wearing one pair of pajamas travel through Shanghai experimenting life as a local would, and… Continue

I can't think of a witty title and I've already done 8 blog posts, so this is an extra blog post, blog post.

This person is so amazing. His photos have this amazing glow and quality to them that makes me really really jealous. I want to be as good as this person. I mean there's such attention to detail and for these two photos, and almost supernatural quality to them.

For the first one, I love the texture of the ima… Continue

Louboutins are So Beautiful.

I just realized how odd it may seem that I can post these so quickly. I copy-pasted them off text-edit that way i can see the photo as I type. I also didn't do them so late at night. I just forgot about them when I went out and thought of them again now. I don't know why I'm explaining this...

I was randomly looking through photos on flickr and I starting thinking… Continue

Wow, I keep getting images for which I cannot copy the image address. Once again, for this image, it was the color that caught my eye. The blue hue was next on the rainbow, so I guess it only follows that next photo I choose would be blue. Especially in light of the fact that my photo project is all about colors - the blue in this photo - and everyday (or in my case everyday local shanghainese-y life) - the subway in this… Continue

Woah Annie! Sounds great, but are you taking on too much? That's a lot of work you've outlined for yourself there.

Hmm... not sure, the Scanner Darkly effect is an Adobe Illustrator tutorial, not photoshop. You sure you want to go there? The Sin City one looks great! Although its kind of short. Perhaps if you did it as a series? Like a comic book?

Ok! Even though this is over 25 steps though, it looks like an easy-ish tutorial. Go with this, but challenge yourself with something more. Could you do this as a series? Or add something else from another tutorial?

I like these tutorials together Bella! Can you perhaps think of something else you could surprise us with, besides the apple and orange? Can something else be disguised? Can something else 'melt' besides colored pencils? The technique you can ada...

Caren, the rain tutorial in korean looks good (although I'm assuming here, my Korean is kinda rusty...) but short as well. Can you find another tutorial to combine it with? Also be more specific about your photograph. What can happen in it that ma...

The final image I want to achieve is sort of like a wallpaper. There is a person with headphones (with a hoodie and their head down so their face is dark) on the left side. I will take this photo with a plain background so it's easier to cut out o...

I was thinking of doing a Sin City effect with the high contrast black/white effect. Even though the tutorial has a close up of a face, I'm thinking of doing a scene with at least 2 subjects, and a light source from either a very low point, or hig...
