hnnn.... try changing the mode to RGB instead of Bitmap. That will give you the option not to flatten, and shouldn't make a difference in the long run.

It doesn't ask me! It says, "flatten image? okay or cancel."

Gran, when I change my image's mode from grayscale to bitmap, it forces the picture to flatten. For some reason, that layers get locked (I can't make new ones or duplicate old ones). How do I fix this? :(

Hi All, I'm reposting these instructions since they got shifted off the page at the bottom.

What Should I be Working on While Mr. Gran is Away?

You have two projects to work on while I am away.
I will expect them both uploaded to the server on the day that I return
(I will post that day when I know).

Project One:

1) The first project is the photoshop tutorial of your choosing. Remember to click "Save As" after every step, and create a .jpg of each step in the process. For your sake, name these photos "step1.jpg" "step2.jpg" etc.

2) Create a Keynote or Powerpoint presentation that explains your process. Your First Slide Should have the Final Image, Image Name, and Your Name.
The Second Slide should start your sequence with the blank canvas.
You should also provide the Site URL and Name of Any Tutorials that you use on the slide that you start them.

Project Two:

Mr. Holder and his Advanced Photography Students will be working with you in the Photography Studio (Mr. Holder's Room). They will teach you how to shoot professional looking photographs using studio lighting.

I will be collecting 10 pictures that you will be taking of your partner. These must consist of at least one:
Full Body Shot
Close Up
Medium Shot
Serious Shot
Silly Shot

The rest are up to you.

You will take one of these shots, and go through alter it using another photoshop tutorial. The tutorials I would like you to use for these projects are video tutorials located on the school server.

2. Choose a tutorial

You may choose any of the tutorials, but the subject must be you (for example, if you choose the hybrid project, you have to be the hybrid with something else. If you choose the cube apples, you have to make your body into cubes).

3. Make it Your Own

In this project, you must pay attention to composition. It is your choice as to whether or not you need to do anything to make sure the background, foreground, and middle ground work together. I will be assessing three things for this project:
1) How well you used the tutorial to create something Different
2) What compositional choices you made (refer to the elements and principles of design- what can you do to make your project more interesting compositionally?)
3) The quality of the final photograph. Be sure to use your curves, levels, and any other tools to make sure you have a good photograph.

Due Dates

1. If you haven't already, your 3 lightpaintings, and 24 China Alive (or Shnaghai) shots should be uploaded to the server for grading no later than Tuesday December 1. These are past due, but as I have been out, have not been able to look at them yet. I will be in on Wednesday, and will be taking them home to grade.

2.2 Photoshop Tutorials & your Powerpoint Presentation will be due on my first class back on December 9. Be sure to document every step in the powerpoint, and make sure your documenting the right assignment. It is the FREE CHOICE tutorial you are documenting, not the video tutorials that you are doing from the server.

ok! so i have found a cooler and weirder photoshop tutorial that i think is kinda out there so im probably not going to do EXACTLY as the tutorial says (might leave out the horns and or the text that says princess) but ill find ways to make it my own, probably do a picture of lauren :)
