Amanda, here is the Klimt website we took a look at in class last week. Have a look around at how he mixes the human form with elaborate patterns:

http://www.expo-klimt.com/

You may also find some more inspiration by learning a bit about his work - wikipedia is often a good place to start:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gustav_Klimt

What I like about this photo:
-The colors (brown, orange, blue, white) all come together nicely
-that the scene is colorful, but the bird is white. I don't think the picture could have worked this nicely unless it was the bird that was white and stood out as a white object amidst a colorful scenery
-there are marks on the beach (I don't know what from) but two of them have the bird right in between which makes the marks somehow less distracting to me
-the amount of sky and beach shown are about the same
-the incoming tide creates a white border at the bottom, and the ocean creates a darker blue border making them more definitive.
-the midsection that is the water shows it on the beach as well as far out in the ocean: there are many waves and different consistencies to the water with interesting patterns and colors vs., e.g., just a wave or two in the ocean

The only thing I would want to change about this photo is a mark in the bottom left corner of the incoming tide. I find it distracting.

What I like:

Movement- All the tracks/containers/trains are leading in the same direction; moves eye to the horizon nicely

Line/Pattern- the lines of these things form a pattern (i.e. every so often there is a new leading line)

Colour- There are many golden hues and rust colours
-->Contrasts nicely with the greys

Value- The ground and sky both of dark and light values

Texture- The clouds, tracks, ground; everything has texture

Weekly Assignment

WHAT I LIKE

Scale: The statues of the women lead not only to the much larger tower, but the much smaller people which are the same distance from the camera

Colour: I like that it has been manipulated such that the background seems more dull, which brings out the gold in the statues

Framing: The side of the building creates a frame around the tower

Leading Lines: The statues also create a path for the eye to follow to the tower, and the down… Continue
