Joe Independent Project

For my independent project I want to combine the works of the renowned skate-photographer Mike Blabac, and the pieces found at the flickr group silhouette photography. Blabac has been a skateboard photographer for over 20 years and has some amazing work to check out. He also has… Continue

Paddy N Weekly Critique

I think this picture is really tense. The sheep staring right at the viewer gives a really tense feeling. It makes the viewer feel almost like he/she is about to be trampled by sheep and should be looking at the picture. In terms of composition however, I think this picture is really strong. There seems to be various different clips on the ears of the sheep and they provide almost like s… Continue

I think this picture is one of the best examples of contrast I have ever seen. The bright yellow is really obvious against the black background and the green bud also really stands out against the yellow petals. The flower almost makes you feel like you are miniature in comparison to the flower.I also think the black things in between the yellow and the green is really important composit… Continue

TarynSmith weekly critique # 4

http://www.flickr.com/photos/66164549@N00/3302652071/ This photo caught my attention very quickly when i searched "beach" on flickr. It stands out to me for several different reasons. The most obvious reason this photo stands out to me is the beautiful symmetry. The houses, stairs, beach, sky and lawn are perfectly reflected on the waterfront creating a balanced and symmetrical composition. I also really like all the angles in this photo. The garbage dam creates a nice angle as it directs into t… Continue

This photo relates well to my project, and it really emphasizes the importance of having a good composition for a contre jour photograph. It also shows what a key role color can play. For this photo, the color of the sky to the glare of the sun, along with the double ferris wheels really make this original. I love the depth of field, or rather, lack of depth of field. All three elements… Continue

PatrickK Weekly Critique #8

http://www.flickr.com/photos/catherinegrieco/3470252609/ There is so much in this photo that I absolutely love. Foremost, this photo is most likely photoshopped to look old, yet its vintage stlye still seems authentic without looking fake and badly taken. The bluriness adds another demension to this photo. The bluriness along with the subject of this solitary person, really creates a great haunt… Continue

PatrickK Weekly Critique #7

http://www.flickr.com/photos/hades/3464809704/ For me, this phot is all about story telling. While although I dont think this photo meant to, it gives a nice tale of industrialization at the cost of the enviorment. The destruction of the enviornment (symbolized by the tree with no leaves) is reflected upon a brand new shiny building. This building represents industrialization and progress, but it also ref… Continue

PatrickK Weekly Critique #6

http://www.flickr.com/photos/asim237/3470976734/ Frist off, there is so much going on in this photograph that makes it visually enticing, that it is hard to pinpoint the underlying factor that makes it interesting. What for me makes it interesting, is the choice of desaturizing it to the point where there is almost no color, only little shades. This seems like a very intersting choice, considering the v… Continue

PatrickK Weekly Critique #5

http://www.flickr.com/photos/gotogragia/3465345837/ To put it simply enough, this photo is just cool to look at. One of my favorite things about this photo is the smoke that is rising from the blue light bulb. This obviously has to be photoshoped, but yet it looks completely natural and adds a whole thing to look at in the picture. Its as if the light was once red, but since it has blown out, the sur… Continue

kai-Advancedphoto kais indy project

my idea for my project is to use surreealism and abstract color to portray this one authors sdtyle. van cleave is his name and he does alot of abstract sky and building work. i want to show this biuilding in downton shanghai and have vines crawling up the buildings and decaying the city tyaking away the color and absorbing it into the vines and flowers on the vines. This works well with the final project because i can draw atleast ten pictures of different stages of shanghai being taken over by… Continue

TarynSmith Independent Project

I found one photographer on deviantart named "coffinfairy". Their style is portraits and closeups on the face using different techniques. One technique they used was painting the subject (a face) white and then applying make up. The white face creates a palette and makes the makeup dram… Continue

This is another example of lighting being very important in skateboard and basically any action shot. The time of day disables you from using a fast shutter speed to capture the moment in time perfectly without making it too dark. On-camera flashes, however, create a brigh… Continue

THis pic is so cool! The red light behind the wall of snow, the red jacket, and the red hat, combined with the shadows looks amazing. Also, the reflection of the red light on the sparkling snow looks awesome. The rider's hand's shadow combined with the rider's arm bring the viewer'… Continue

This pic is so cool! The red light, the red jacket, and the red hat look amazing together. But what really makes this photo amazing is the snow. The snow being sprayed in front of the strobe light just looks so awesome. Also, the reflection of the red light on the surrounding snow… Continue

Gina R independent project

My independent project will be based on the style of works of Ray Man and Jerry Uelsmann. Their works are black and white analog photography with surreal images. I enjoyed using photoshop this year. I liked to change and mix several images to create a new one. I wanted to do this in analog ever since I saw the works of these photographers. I would apply my skills used in digital photography and build on using it in analog photography. Continue

http://www.flickr.com/photos/mattmawson/3426083501/in/set-72157615050645434/ This photo is something which traditionally concerning the elements of design does not make sense. However its off centered frame is what really makes it interesting to me. The framing shows me this shot was taking while moving, which adds perfectly to the pace of the photograph. The man in the left… Continue

The first photographer that I have researched is one that everyone has heard of living in Shanghai, that being Gang Feng (http://www.gangofone.com.cn/Picture.aspx?PCId=2498cd4f-8471-4898-96c1-e5b9c8c097ca). To me his style is rather simple, relying not on color or abstract things, but on humans as a subject. From what I have seen his style almost exclusively focuses on human emotions and human interactions with one another. These interactions and emotions themselves are narratives, and each can… Continue

Shimon Attie: His works are very interesting, there is a sense of a lot of color. He takes pictures concerned with questions of memory, place, and identity, Shimon Attie gives visual form to both personal and collective memories. He uses faded colors but they are still striking and give to the sense of composition to it. Then he in some photos adds in like other images into like a wall, giving viewers a sense of what is going on. He uses text in some on his pics, where he adds them onto the wal… Continue

Joe Post #3

At first i thought who are these kids? but then i looked at it from a photographer's point of view. what i came up with was that this photo is kind of like a narrative, telling a story about these two boys and their skating ambitions. The color of the sky contrasting with the pitch black silhouettes instantly catches your eye. also, the kids looking at eachother brings your eye back and forth between the two, bringing focus to the sky. the railing on the right helps balance the composition.… Continue

katrina Week 6 Post

This photo really shows the meaning of a different perspective on something that is seemingly ordinary. First off, the yellow dominates the photograph and the rest of the colors are all dull, close to neutral colors. Of course, the viewpoint in which the photograph is shot is also very interesting. It almost seems like the cars are attacking and they are almost going to run you over. The fact that it was rainin… Continue
