weekly critique # 6

http://www.flickr.com/photos/patrick-smith-photography/3202786812/ This is an extremely striking photo for several different reasons. To start off, the colors in this photo are beautiful. The gold, blue, brown and yellow shades compliment eachother perfectly creating a very magical image. Also the golden tones of the rocks bring out the peachy-golden shades among the blue clouds. The peachy-golden clouds meet the deep blue ocean at the horizon line which makes for a very defined line and balance… Continue

weekly critique # 5

http://www.flickr.com/photos/hvhe1/3080395402/ There is so much about this photograph that make it almost perfect. To begin, the rule of thirds holds true with the deer placed in the bottom left corner. It is important for the deer to be placed on a thirds vertex because it is the main subject of the photo. The viewer's eyes are also drawn to deer because of the many leading lines. The branches create oblique leading lines to the sun shining through the back of the forest. Once the viewer is foc… Continue

weekly critique # 4

http://www.flickr.com/photos/66164549@N00/3302652071/ This photo caught my attention very quickly when i searched "beach" on flickr. It stands out to me for several different reasons. The most obvious reason this photo stands out to me is the beautiful symmetry. The houses, stairs, beach, sky and lawn are perfectly reflected on the waterfront creating a balanced and symmetrical composition. I also really like all the angles in this photo. The garbage dam creates a nice angle as it directs into t… Continue

Independent Project

I found one photographer on deviantart named "coffinfairy". Their style is portraits and closeups on the face using different techniques. One technique they used was painting the subject (a face) white and then applying make up. The white face creates a palette and makes the makeup dram… Continue

weekly critique # 3

http://www.flickr.com/photos/sidnid/3406292156/ This photo is absolutely stunning. It immediately caught my eye because of it's very simple but interesting composition. My guess would be that the photographer took this photo at sunrise because of the orange sky and semi low in the sky, sun. Something i really like about this photo is how the tree branches are oblique lines that direct the viewer's eyes to the focal point, the sun and also the main source of light. The photographer chose to empha… Continue

weekly critique # 2

http://www.flickr.com/photos/37043062@N00/3287771454/ The title of this photo "winter blues" is perfect. My immediate impression of the mood of this photo was lonely and dreary. The combination of the single, bare tree and the unvibrant, washed out colors is what provoked my impression that the mood was lonely and dreary. I really like how only the tree and waterfront is in focus and the rest of the picture is blurred. It makes the viewer focus on the most interesting and standout part of this p… Continue

weekly critique #1

http://www.flickr.com/photos/alphageek/233472093/ The upward angle of this photo creates the perspective of an insect looking up at the flowers and the bright sky background. Not only did the interesting perspective of this photo catch my eye but i also really like the lighting in this photo. The sun is the main source of lighting and the way it shines through the petals of the flowers creates a beautiful composition. The shining through the petals also creates transparency of some of the petals… Continue
