I know this is a little late, but it relates to the actual final project much more.
Originally, I had planned to do what was going to be titled "The Pajama Series: A Drowsy Reflection on Shanghai" and it would be a compare/contrast piece on the many dichotomies in Shanghai, especially in relation to the differences between local Shanghainese life and expatriate life. I was going to have only one model, wearing one pair of pajamas travel through Shanghai experimenting life as a local would, and…

This person is so amazing. His photos have this amazing glow and quality to them that makes me really really jealous. I want to be as good as this person. I mean there's such attention to detail and for these two photos, and almost supernatural quality to them.
For the first one, I love the texture of the ima…

I just realized how odd it may seem that I can post these so quickly. I copy-pasted them off text-edit that way i can see the photo as I type. I also didn't do them so late at night. I just forgot about them when I went out and thought of them again now. I don't know why I'm explaining this...
I was randomly looking through photos on flickr and I starting thinking…

Wow, I keep getting images for which I cannot copy the image address. Once again, for this image, it was the color that caught my eye. The blue hue was next on the rainbow, so I guess it only follows that next photo I choose would be blue. Especially in light of the fact that my photo project is all about colors - the blue in this photo - and everyday (or in my case everyday local shanghainese-y life) - the subway in this…

I found this photo very interesting. A wonderful tribute to summer - to all the wonder, glory and fun - all in my favorite color green. I loved the dominance of that particular yellow-green color, on the precipice between a cold and warm color, it seemed to go well with the whole theme of the transition to the cold, but more structured life of school and the warm, spontaneous summer life. There's also this delicate balance in the image because of…

This last one is just so off. I don't quite know how to explain it. It's obviously washed out, yet is still has much detail and contrast within it. The desolation is obvious from the broken down shacks and the panels of unused and battered wood surrounding it. Also the fisheye effect created by the clouds and the shape of the ground give it this unsettling effect, yet the clouds themselves…

This one is similarly obviously themed, little red riding hood lost in the forest. The colors the dramatic cold blue and the warm but little red in the person obviously add to this theme. YET, the capes shoulders are so oddly angled and the head so large and disproportionate from the body that I feel like I'm looking at an peturbing fantasy.

So these are three photos that I love so much, but which I have at least one problem with.

This one reminds me of the Dali photo, that wonderful split-second surrealism. Its balanced: the light post with the person. There's contrast. Not only between the really dark darkness (ooh I'm smart), but also the contrast between the creepy killer guy and the ancient, ornate door. And its off k…

Right, so over the years I've been a fan of all the pretty food blogs; the ones with the nice pictures and whatnot. But to tell the truth, I never though of these housewives as photographers, which is I suppose politically incorrect, highly stereotypical, and altogether hypocritical. I mean, these people are REALLY GOOD. Of course it didn't hit me till I read Elise's blog which talked a…

So I know I was meant to post these up wayyy earlier, but I kind of didn't realize ning worked till it was mentioned in class the fifth time or so. Anyhow I have no idea how many are due, but since people have around five, I guess I'll do three more! YAY!
Well to start me off I'm going to do one on one of my friend's, and a SAS alumni's photographs on her really cool website. I really loved this i…

Wow, so this photo for me was just amazing. I mean, its definitely not perfect. I love how the trees in the lower right corner stop your eyes from falling off the page, but I can't help but think that they seem blocky and just... I would like it better if it were one of the wintery trees where the leaves had fallen off and all that was left are the delicate branches forming that beautif…

This photo Kate by Puja really struck me as I was looking through the photos on Flickr. I mean, it's definitely not perfect - on the right side of the face it loses its definition in the skin and often on the scarf - but in a way these errs contribute greatly to the haunting, melancholy (too bad, I can't be bothered to come up with different adjectives than the ones I used in class) mood th…
