Since, we have been doing so many narrative photos, I thought that I might as well comment on a good narrative photo that I have seen while exploring Flickr. I really like this photo for it describes really well one of the scenarios in a classical folktale, "The Little Red Riding Hood". The general color of this image is excellent at conveying the emotion of the dire situation. The bluish hue demonstrates the eerie feeling of being in the woods after having seeing a wolf. Furthermore, the dark red color of the girl's costume contrasts excellently with the blue hue and allowing her to stand out of the picture. Most of the lines derive from the trees and their general direction is vertical which gives a feeling of balance, formality and alertness, tying in perfectly with the story. The repetition of the tree trunks aids to the composition, and I specially like the tree before which the girl is standing. The tree is "highlighted" by the girl since it contains much more detail than the silhouettes of the other trees. The lighting found present in this image is exemplary of good lighting technique that can easily create emotion. It can be seen that the light is being filtered by the tree tops and at the same time, it shows the haze present amongst the trees, creating the well known phantasmagorical sensation of the woods. Lastly, I also like the fact that the tree trunks kind of form a natural framing around the image. I also like very much the gradual change that the bluish tones undergoes from the ground to the top. In conclusion, there a number of aspects in this image that make it such as wonderful narrative picture.
