I found one photographer on deviantart named "coffinfairy". Their style is portraits and closeups on the face using different techniques. One technique they used was painting the subject (a face) white and then applying make up. The white face creates a palette and makes the makeup dramatic and stand out. The second photographer i found on flickr named Sukanto Debnath. Their style is incorpating a lot of texture into portraits. One technique they use is matching up the textures between the subject (a face) and the background. The photographer's advice is if you're going to use texture in your portrait, to make it stand out and make it obvious.
This year in photography, i felt the memory project was the most rewarding and i thought it turned out very well. I really liked the set of photos i took so i had alot to work and incorpate into my final collage. Surprisingly enough, most of the photos i took were of textures and close ups of my face. I learnt during the memory project that i really enjoy working with textures and that is why i have decided to make it my focus in my independent project.
For my independent project i want to incorpate textures into close ups portraits of different faces. I have yet to play around with what textures i will use and how i will use them but i have a few ideas. I think it would be really interesting to incorporate "coffinfairy"''s technique of painting the face white as a pallette and adding texture. That could mean painting designs, applying sand, feathers, grass, beads and so much more. I want to take the photos up close up on the face for a more dramatic effect but i also want to try Sukanto Debnath's technique of matching the textures between the subject and the background. Depending how the photos turn out, I will decide which techniques I prefer or I will use both.
